Blacksmith · Knight · Sellsword
Backstory
Thordar never set out to be a knight. Or a sellsword. Or anything that required getting up before dawn and wearing more than one layer of metal. He was born in Coerthas and raised at the forge, where most of his childhood was spent hauling coal, swinging a hammer, and learning how to dodge flying sparks with the reflexes of a seasoned monk...or a cat. By the time he was fully grown, he could lift an anvil one-handed and had the arms to prove it—which, as he often told people during his late night bar escapades, earned him a discount at the market more than once. He totally did not make that story up.When the Calamity struck and Ishgard started recruiting anyone who could walk and not trip over a sword, Thordar was drafted into service. What he lacked in training, he made up for with sheer stubbornness and an unexpected knack for light-based magicks—thanks, in part, to years of working with rune-inscribed weapons and prayer-blessed metals. They gave him a shield, a title, and a very uncomfortable tabard—which was quickly replaced with his own—and he made it work. Somehow, he went from village blacksmith to battlefield paladin without ever figuring out how to properly salute.
Backstory
After the war, Thordar quietly stepped away from knighthood. He actually liked the armor—shiny, dramatic, made his shoulders look fantastic. But the politics? The oaths? The endless sermons about duty and dragons and the glory of the Holy See? Not so much. He figured he could still help people without having to swear loyalty to a bunch of crusty old lords with trust issues. Besides, there were plenty of ways to be useful that didn’t involve getting covered in blood—like fixing busted gear, lifting heavy things, and occasionally dragging a runaway chocobo out of someone’s cellar.Back in the Brume, he reopened his forge, eventually earning the local title of Forgemaster—a mark of respect that came from years of service, soot, and a reputation for fixing anything from buckled armor to busted cart axles. He preferred the forge anyway. It didn’t ask for paperwork. Or moral compromise.
Backstory
That’s about when Leander showed up. Some arcane investigator from gods-know-where, poking around in old glyphs and void-touched nonsense with all the subtlety of a glamoured chocobo in a library. Thordar got dragged into it when a few overzealous knights tried to detain the guy over a permit they couldn’t read. He read it for them, told them off, and ended up stuck with Leander for the rest of the night. One thing led to another—banter, shared drinks, suspiciously long glances, and just enough charm to be dangerous. Then kissing. Lots of that. They've been more or less inseparable since—Leander pulling Thordar into his investigations “just for muscle,” and Thordar pretending not to enjoy the puzzle-solving part—or being able to wear his flashy armor again. Whether it’s hauling cursed tomes, warding off stray voidsent, or deciphering old glyphs with a paladin's eye, the two make a surprisingly efficient team. Or at least an entertaining one.
Backstory
Now the two of them live in a tucked-away stone loft just above Thordar’s forge—close enough for him to roll out of bed and into a smithing apron, and far enough from street level that Leander can pretend he doesn’t hear clients knocking. Thordar still picks up the occasional contract when the mood strikes—guard duty, escorting caravans, emergency anvil retrieval—and spends his spare time refining his own blend of glyph-based light magic in both his studies and in his own self-made armor. He claims he’s not a mage by any means. He just “sets things on fire in a very controlled, holy way.”Thordar always figured he’d have a forge, a hammer, and a roof that didn’t leak—maybe a few regulars dropping by, a bit of noise, something to keep his hands busy. He didn’t plan on glyphwork, magical mishaps, or falling for a void investigator with more secrets than socks. But now that he’s got all three? He’s not complaining. Well—maybe about the evil corrupted relics on the bathroom shelf. But even that’s part of the charm.
